James and Vincent Le Ray de Chaumont papers 1816-1849

James Le Ray de Chaumont (1760-1841) was the son of Jacques-Donatien Le Ray de Chaumont (1726-1803) a prominent French supporter of the American Revolution. James Le Ray married an American woman and became a United States citizen, settling in Le Ray (or Leraysville), New York. Vincent Le Ray, son of James Le Ray, was born in France but, like his father, emigrated to the United States, also living in New York State. The papers consist of two letters from James Le Ray de Chaumont relating to his passport, and an advertisement for land for sale in Upstate New York by Vincent Le Ray.
